Join us for the Bark in the Park on Sunday, May 19 and the Humane Hustle 5K on Saturday, June 8!
The Toledo Area Humane Society is fortunate to have approximately 350 volunteers at any given time. Volunteers support all areas of our organization from dog walking and kitty cuddling to office assistance, fostering and so much more! Although we do sometimes have a waiting list to become a volunteer – we are always looking for dedicated people who want to help animals in their community!
ATTENTION PARENTS: Because our Junior Volunteers (ages 10-15) must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, it is necessary that the parent also complete an online application. Junior volunteers will not be considered for participation without the parent applicant.
What happens after I submit my application?
After we receive your completed online application you will be required to attend the next available orientation date. Don't forget - all volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
I'm a student in need of service hours. Can I get hours at the Humane Society?
Unfortunately, due to the vast number of students in need of service hours for school and/or church, we are no longer able to offer student service learning opportunities. However, please see our list of projects and activities that can benefit the animals and earn student hours.
Volunteers must be at least 10 years old and accompanied by a parent if under age 16. We request that our volunteers commit to at least 10 hours per month for a minimum of 6 months.
All prospective volunteers must complete an online application and will receive an invitation to attend a three-hour volunteer orientation if accepted.
Orientations are offered each month, and include important information about our organization's programs and services along with a description of each volunteer opportunity as well as a tour of the facility.
All volunteers should be current on tetanus vaccinations and carry health insurance. Please remember that while we take great care to ensure your safety, we are housing animals that are sometimes unpredictable. Good judgement and safe animal handling are a must when volunteering at TAHS.
If you have additional questions, please contact Mary Moser, Director of Volunteers at (419) 891-1561.
