The Fur Ball is the Toledo Area Humane Society's largest annual fundraiser. All of the proceeds raised from this, and all of our events, go directly to support our mission.  Your support allows us to help thousands of homeless animals that come through our doors each year.  Funds raised also allow us to respond to thousands of reports of cruelty, abuse and neglect of animals in our community. 

At this year’s Fur Ball, guests can expect an exciting evening complete with tasty Creole creations and live entertainment by the hottest Michigan casino band, Dal Bouey, who will have party-goers out of their seats and shaking their tail for a party that will be talked about for months to come! The 24^th Annual Fur Ball: Paws for Mardi Gras will feature special guests Rick & Mary Beth from 101.5 The River, Christina Williams and Tony Geftos from 13abc and live auctioneer Dawn Rose.

Sponsor George the Cat for a Year
George is the Toledo Area Humane Society’s live-in mascot. He came to us in 2009 shortly after Halloween when TAHS Cruelty Officer, Gene Boros, responded to a call about a severely burned cat. George’s owner called TAHS after discovering him with severe burns on his head, face and front paws. Knowing he could not afford the medical care for the cat’s injuries, the owner surrendered him to Officer Boros, who immediately brought him back to TAHS for medical attention. 

Despite his injuries, George tried to rub his head against Dr. Deb Johnson’s arm for attention and to offer his affection when she removed him from the carrier to evaluate his injuries. It was then that the animal care staff realized George’s will to live and decided to give him a fighting chance.

George underwent multiple surgeries to repair and remove damaged tissue on his ears, face and around his eyes.  It took six months for the injuries to heal. And while his physical appearance has changed due to his ordeal, his personality has not.  George is one of the sweetest cats you will ever meet and adores all the attention he now receives from staff, volunteers and visitors who regularly stop in to give him a healthy dose of daily loving, petting, playing and of course, treats.

At the 2010 Fur Ball, TAHS staff officially adopted George. He now lives a life of relaxation, bird-watching and generally just being spoiled rotten.

Now YOU can sponsor George!  As George’s annual sponsor, you will receive, a plaque with a photo of you and George naming you as George’s sponsor for the year.  We will hang an identical plaque in the TAHS office.  We will also include the photo in our May 2013 Newsletter, announcing you George’s Sponsor.
